option three in ROME
Hotel Royal Court
Hotel Royal Court is an intimate boutique hotel offering traditionally decorated rooms on a quiet street near Rome’s Termini Station. Its location provides convenient access to trains, buses and the Metro but it would make sense as well to take an Uber or Bolt to the main attractions. Guests enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, a 24-hour front desk, breakfast service and a charming garden courtyard. The hotel has an elevator. If interested in this property I will reach out directly to the hotel to make sure the room being booked is accessible by elevator because some rooms are located in an annex building that wold require several stairs and a walk to and from breakfast. There are rooms available in the main hotel with an elevator though. There are two small room and four large rooms remaining at this location. This location has the lowest rating among the suggested options but it’s still worth considering if you’re interested in it.

8:00AM: Pickup & trander
You will be picked up at the dock by your driver and guide and then drive to Pisa.
9:15AM: Pisa Entery
You’ll have 45min to see the leaning tower of Pisa and explore the Bapistry, Camposanto, and Opera Del Duomo Museum. 45 minutes is pretty standard but more time is needed if people elect to climb the tower.
10:00Am-12:00PM: Drive to florence
This drive winds through the scenic Tuscan countryside, passing olive groves, vineyards, and charming villages. As you near Florence, the landscape transitions from rolling hills to the city’s iconic Renaissance skyline crowned by Brunelleschi’s famous dome.
12:00PM-1:15PM: Lunch
Antico Ristorante Il Sasso di Dante - Firenze and Trattoria dall'Oste Chianineria are both located right next to the Piazza del Duomo. We can make a reservation for lunch at either. I recommend them because Florence is known for their steak and these two restaurants specialize in aging and grilling.
1:15PM-3:15PM: explore the duomo and surrounding area
You’ll admire one of Italy’s most iconic landmarks, from its striking marble façade to the magnificent dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. You’ll see the cathedral’s grand interior, take in the artistry and history of the complex, and have time to enjoy Florence’s historic center just outside the piazza.

SELECTED Itinerary for Florence and pisa:
Traveling in two vans so you can be dropped off right at the sites
Estimate WITHOUT a guide: $220 per person (you would still have audio tours for the sites)
Estimate WITH a guide: $252 per person (they would travel with you all day and have general knowledge about Tuscany)
Traveling in one bus which will require 5 and a half miles of walking over cobblestone with stairs
Estimate WITHOUT a guide: $284 per person (you would still have audio tours for the sites)
Estimate WITH a guide: $322 per person (they would travel with you all day and have general knowledge about Tuscany)
These prices include the entry tickets into the sites.
I know it isn’t ideal but my recommendation is to take two vans. Walking to and from the sites will be challenging for anyone with mobility issues (stairs and cobble stone) and will cut into the time you have at the sites. For example you will be a 15-20 minute walk to and from the duomo in Florence if you take the bus. It drops you off near the train station because the busses are not allowed to get closer. That’s at least 30 minutes less time you’ll have to spend exploring the historic center and duomo. Up to you of course.
April 20th, 8AM- 6PM
8:00AM: Pickup
You would be picked up at the La Spezia dock where the ship will be docked from 6:15AM-8:00PM.
9:30AM: Pisa Entery
This is one of those “check it off your bucket list” stops in my opinion. It’s 20 Euro to see the leaning tower and enter the basilica. Personally, I don’t think you need more than 45 minutes. You’ll even have time for a coffee at one of the little cafes with a view of the tower.
10:30Am-12:30PM: Drive to florence
This drive should take about an hour and forty five minutes but you will want to allow for up two and a half hours in case of traffic. If you arrive a little earlu it just gives you more time in Florence.
12:30PM: Lunch
Antico Ristorante Il Sasso di Dante - Firenze and Trattoria dall'Oste Chianineria are both located right next to the Piazza del Duomo. We can make a reservation for lunch at either. 12:15PM: Lunch
Sottosotto and Osteria da Pasquale are both in the heart of town but Osteria da Pasquale is right in the main square. These are the best rated restaurants in town and they have good variation on the menus.
1:15PM-2:30PM: explore Lucca
With your guide visit the Church of San Michele, which is over 1000 years old. Walk around piazza Napoleone and down via Fillungo to sample olive oil and wine in the little shops. See Torre Delle ore, Torre Guinigi, San Frediano, Piazza Anfiteatro, and the Sixteenth-century walls still protecting the city. If you’re weak like me, stop in Caffe del Teatro: Pasticceria Napoletana to buy a treat to munch on.

10:00AM: Pickup
You would be picked up at the La Spezia dock where the ship will be docked from 6:15AM-8:00PM.
11:00AM-12:00PM: Monterosso al Mare
This is the region's largest and most famous village. The town is a mix of old-world charm in its historic center (with narrow alleys and churches) and a modern resort feel in its newer section. The local specialties are lemons and fresh seafood. You have an hour to stroll around and see the sites.
2:00PM-3PM: Vernazza
Vernazza is one of the 5 centuries-old villages that make up the Cinque Terre. Colorful houses surround its small marina and the Santa Margherita di Antiochia Church has a bell tower topped by an elegant cupola. Clinging to the rocks, Doria Castle is a medieval defensive structure with a cylindrical tower. Walk around steep streets lined with cozy cafes, magnificent architecture, old churches and artisan shops.
12:00PM-1:00PM: Lunch
Ristorante L'Ancora della Tortuga is a casual restaurant with an incredible view of the sea and cliffs. It also has the best rating in town!
4Pm: board the ship
I will update this form once I have pricing
suggested itineraries for your time as a group (and individually) in each city
I’m going to start with the locations that are the most time sensitive first.
Please note the prices do not include tip, guide/driver meals (if booking all day), tolls, extra time/mileage/parking fees beyond what is agreed to in advance. or entry into sites requiring a ticket. I can help book those though.
IMPORTANT: All of these prices are as close as I could get them to get an estimate that would reflect what you would like to do each day. I gathered that information through out texts as well as the information from the ship excursions that were chosen. These prices include parking fees, gas, mileage, the driver’s time, city taxes, ZTL, and city passes. All of these locations, especially in Rome and Barcelona, would require a schedule to be provided because parking would need to be coordinated in advance.
Itinerary for barcelona:
Estimate: $818.99, $58.50 per person
No guide needed this day in my opinion
April 16th, 9AM- 2PM
9:00AM: Pickup
You, and all of your luggage, will be picked up after breakfast.
10:00AM: Sagrata familia tour
If all goes to plan you will have tickets purchased through the basilica for a tour. Alternatively, you may have tickets purchased through a third party. Regardless, the tour would be around the same time.
11:30Am or 1:15PM: Pickup
You have two great options.
1- You can explore around the area near the basilica following your tour. You could grab some tapas to share at Madre Taberna Moderna. Maybe go shopping along Avinguda Gaudi which is closed for pedestrians or Passeig de Gracia which is known for its high end retail shops. If you like markets, visit Mercat de la Sagrada Família which is a large indoor farmers style market. Just be sure to meet the driver at 1:15PM.
2- You could meet the driver following your tour and head to Palau de la Música Catalana. This gorgeous space is a UNESCO world heritage site and it’s on the way to the dock where you will board your cruise. For 20 Euro per person you can enter on a self guided tour that will take you about 30 minutes. Right next to Palau de la Música Catalana is Tosca Palau where you can grab a quick set of tapas to snack on before exploring the building. If there are some in the group who aren’t interested they can hang out a little longer at the tapas bar. You’ll want to meet the driver at 1:30PM.
2:00PM: board the odyssey of the seas
You and your luggage will be dropped off at the dock for your cruise.

This is the best place to go for a view of all of Florence. Stop here for a photo before heading back to the coast.
6Pm: board the ship
Estimate for transfer, ship-hotel: $1,425, $102 per person* (bad deal alert)
Estimate for 5 hour rental: $1,710, $122 per person (good deal)
A guide for 8 hours: $950, $68 per person
A guide for 4 hours: $475, $34 per person
April 24th, 10AM-3PM (3PM is check in)
The minibus would pick you up from the port and take you anywhere you would like to go before dropping you off at your hotel at check in. You could extend the amount of time or shorten it. Totally up to you but the latest you can get off the ship is 10AM.
*If all you want is a transfer from the ship to the hotel it would be cheaper to take 3 Uber vans. You would save about $75 per person. If you plan to take multiple Ubers to see sites before checking in to the hotel, the minibus is a better deal and you would all be together.

Your trip includes travel to:
-

Barcelona, Spain
You’ll stay one night in a hotel before departing on the ship! You’ll check in on April 15th and out on April 16th
-

Palma de Mallorca, Spain
This gorgeous little island is home to wonderful wine, seafood, beautiful clear water beaches, and ancient villages clinging to seaside mountains. I spend a week on the island and can make recommendations if you’re interested.
-

Nice (VILLEFRANCHE), France
You’ll have two beautiful options while docked here! You’ll be a short distance from the mountaintop town of Èze, with its views of the French Riviera, and from Nice’s Vieille Ville (Old City). Both are great options when deciding how to spend your day.
-

FLORENCE / PISA (LA SPEZIA), ITALY
You’ll have the choice to visit Pisa but I found Florence to be one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. If Pisa is a bucket list item, visit! If not, I highly recommend staying in Florence for the day. I know of an AMAZING steak restaurant near the Duomo.
-

Sicily (Messina), Italy
Messina is a coastal gem in northern Sicily and a wonderful place to explore at an easy pace. Wandering the city’s streets to see the history reflected in its architecture, from the long-standing Messina Cathedral to the mix of styles found throughout town. It’s a great stop for soaking in Sicily’s character.
-

Naples/Capri, Italy
The third-largest Italian city and one of the oldest in Europe, Naples combines deep history and modern verve. Check out the extravagant Royal Palace of Naples, the former home of the royal family, or simply people-watch from a streetside cafe in the Sanita district with a glass of wine and slice of classic margherita pizza. It’s gorgeous and I recommend anything lemon! They’re grown along the Amalfi Coast and are so, so, good.
-

Rome, Italy
Rome is a city best enjoyed at an unhurried pace. It’s a beautiful city with endless things to see and do…and it’s home to probably the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten from one of the oldest shops in Italy.
While your cruise may be ending here, your trip doesn’t have to. I’d be happy to help arrange a hotel and extend your stay so you can enjoy Rome a bit longer or rest before your return flight home.

Not COvered?
There are a few elements of the trip that are not being covered. These are completely optional and can be added based on your personal travel style and preferences. I’ll be adding pricing and additional information to these options shortly. For the ground transportation, I will add pricing once flights and hotels are booked.
This can include all transfers to and from your home, airports, hotels, and the cruise dock. I’m happy to coordinate any or all of these transfers on your behalf and can provide quotes once flights and hotels are confirmed. These arrangements would be for private car services (not rideshare services such as Uber).
Your driver would meet you just outside of baggage claim, assist with your luggage, and ensure a smooth, stress-free transfer.

What are Lisa and tom covering?
All the core components of this trip! I will be coordinating and booking these on your behalf to ensure everything aligns perfectly for the group.
This includes:
Your cruise ship accommodations (your stateroom onboard)
Your flights
One hotel night prior to cruise departure, so everyone begins the journey well-rested and ready to sail
I’ll be handling the bookings and confirmations for these elements, keeping group timing, logistics, and connections in mind.

Credit Card Authorization
As part of the cruise line’s requirements, each stateroom must have one credit card on file to be linked to onboard expenses. For that reason, I ask that one credit card authorization form be completed per stateroom, regardless of whether you plan to add any optional services or upgrades. This card will be securely associated with the stateroom and is required by the ship in order to sail which makes it time sensitive.
If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly. You can contact me at (818) 455-2145 (same number on WhatsApp for those outside the US) or danielle@itinerariesbydesign.com. I’m always happy to help.

If you’ve noted interest in extending your stay in Barcelona, Rome, or both, I’ll be in touch as soon as possible to discuss your hotel preferences. I’m happy to provide thoughtfully curated hotel recommendations based on your budget, travel style, and priorities; and there is no service fee for hotel bookings. My goal is to make any addition a seamless and enjoyable extension of your cruise!
Whether extending your stay or not, you also have the option to stay at a different hotel than the one selected by Tom and Lisa in Barcelona. I’m happy to help you choose and book the right hotel for your preferences and will let you know how much of the cost will be covered based on the rate of the hotel Tom and Lisa selected. Once a hotel is selected I will reach out to see if you would like to stay in the same location as them or if you would like to hear about potential alternatives. Regardless, when I book you, I will try and get you any agency perks I can!
*a form for the excursions will be added asap
