The bahamas

locations to consider

Nassau Island

Plenty of options at varying price points, access to a larger town and there are easy day trips to Rose Island and Exuma. Nassau is one of the easiest islands to fall into effortlessly, combining postcard-perfect beaches with a vibrant cultural and social scene. Unlike more remote destinations, Nassau gives you variety: you can spend your morning snorkeling in clear turquoise waters, your afternoon exploring colorful colonial streets and local markets, and your evening at a restaurants or enjoying the nightlife. It’s also incredibly accessible, with frequent flights from the U.S. It’s a good mix of relaxation and energy in one trip.

Exuma

Another good option with day trips possible to Great Exuma, Big Major Cay, Staniel Cay, and Stocking Island. Exumas offers a more untouched, cinematic version of island life making it ideal for travelers seeking raw natural beauty over busier, built-up destinations. Here, the water is impossibly clear, the sandbars stretch for miles, and experiences feel truly one-of-a-kind, from swimming with pigs to drifting through secluded cays that often feel entirely your own. Unlike more developed islands, Exuma delivers a sense of quiet luxury and exclusivity, where the pace slows down and nature takes center stage. If you’re looking to disconnect, reset, and experience the Bahamas at its most pristine, Exuma is hard to beat. Please note it would be a second flight (30-40 minutes) or a ferry (2.5-3 hours) from Nassau to get to Exuma.

Eleuthera

Eleuthera is another perfect location if you crave a slower, more soulful island experience with a touch of the unexpected. Known for its dramatic landscapes, like the iconic pink sand beaches and the striking contrast of the deep Atlantic against the calm Caribbean. Days here are spent beach-hopping, exploring hidden coves, and enjoying laid-back local charm rather than packed itineraries. With its blend of natural beauty, authenticity, and unhurried pace, Eleuthera is ideal if you’re looking to truly unplug and experience the Bahamas in a more intimate, off-the-radar way.

If you want you can stay in two locations and split your time to see more. I would recommend Nassau and one of the other islands to get a good mix of city and solitude.
