Desert Sunsets and Canyon exploration: One Epic Family Road Trip

When one of my favorite clients reached out looking to pack two weeks full of adventure, I knew we were about to create something fun. The mission? Maximize every moment, make memories their kids will be talking about for years, and sprinkle in a bit of relaxation so no one needed a vacation from their vacation. Challenge accepted.

They kicked things off with a drive to Las Vegas—not for the slots, but for sunshine and splashing. Instead of the Strip, they opted for a private home with a pool where the kids could cannonball to their hearts’ content while parents kicked back with something frosty.

Next stop: Zion. But not without a lunch break and the cutest detour to a ranch where the little ones met baby animals and took a charming train ride piloted by... other kids! (Yes, you read that right.)

From there, they made their way to Zion Mountain Ranch—a gorgeous cabin all to themselves, complete with a porch swing, private fire pit for s’mores, and bison feeding with ranch staff. Add in a guided horseback ride through the hills and it’s no surprise they’re already asking to go back. Honestly? Same.

While staying at the ranch, they took a day trip to hike The Narrows—and get this: the kids hiked SIX miles. Basically, they’re tiny superheroes.

From Zion they cruised on to Bryce Canyon, where they jumped into side-by-sides for a rugged mountain ride with sweeping views. Parents got their chill time by the pool while the kids kept the energy high.

Then it was on to Moab, where we doubled down on the off-road fun with more side-by-side action. With jaw-dropping views and a family-friendly brewery serving pizza (because priorities), this was dad’s favorite day. I knew he was on off-road fan and boy did my research into finding this activity pay off.

The next morning? White-water rafting on the Colorado River—with water guns. No one was safe from water gun fire, and everyone was smiling. My favorite part- next time I book them to go rafting they want a FASTER section of the river. You got it! That afternoon they explored Arches National Park, then wound down with smoky goodness at Spitfire Smokehouse and Taps.

But it gets better.

They headed next to Monument Valley, where they met up with a local Navajo guide. They toured the sacred monuments, visited a traditional Hogan, learned weaving and beadwork from local artisans, snacked on fry bread, and were serenaded with singing and flute playing. This was mom’s favorite day—and for good reason. She had visited a reservation with her own mom as a child and wanted her children to share in that same powerful experience. I’m honored to have helped make that happen.

The next morning? Tickets to hike through the iconic Antelope Valley!

Finally, they made their way to the Grand Canyon, where ebikes took them along the rim and through the forest trails. The trip wrapped with some well-earned pool time before heading home, happy, dusty, and full of memories.

The family kindly shared some incredible photos with me (which I’ll cherish—and maybe frame, not kidding). I can’t wait to plan their next getaway.
